Team and Manager
Mainfreight is highly-regarded as one of NZ’s most successful and dynamic companies. They are recognized as an industry leader in the supply chain logistics industry, offering a full suite of services and solutions to meet their customers’ needs. With a team of 9,000+ passionate professionals worldwide, their extensive global reach is proof that Mainfreight knows the meaning of hard work, dedication, and success.
By their own admission, only the best will do, and they achieve this with a truly collaborative style, an engaged team of people, and a commitment to always delivering the highest quality for their customers. They are focused on enabling people to continue to develop skills and succeed in work and life. They pride themselves on not being your typical “big corporate” company.
The Group Managing Director, Don Braid, has led the company for over 20 years. He is straight-up, honest and direct in his communication; humour is never far away, which results in a balanced and open, supportive style.
This exceptional opportunity has arisen due to the current EA, after fifteen amazing years in this one-of-a-kind role, deciding it’s time for a change in pace and stepping into a Board support role. Enjoy the beauty of a full handover to really get to grips with the intricacies of the job, and a knowledge of Mainfreight’s culture, required to provide the highest level of support. The role calls for an energetic and self-motivated individual who will bring initiative and resourcefulness to providing support and assistance to the Group Managing Director. Based within the open-plan office, this role will see you be part of the small, highly-effective National and Global Executive Team.
This role promises not to disappoint; your significant experience supporting a senior executive, preferably within a large and complex organization, will ensure you can add value immediately. Providing the highest level of EA support to the Group MD will include calendar and travel management, attending and taking minutes at Executive and Committee meetings, event coordination, lodging market announcements with NZX, overseeing projects such as the company’s annual report and twice-yearly global newsletter production, requiring complex formatting, and eagle eye editing.
As you will appreciate, a role at this level really does require mastery of the written word and verbal communication, organisational and technical skills, legal and business acumen that allows you to add value and instil confidence in those around you.
If working within a company which is dedicated to continually striving to be better and which values ideas, without taking itself too seriously, then look no further. Can you steady the ship and see the big picture? Do you have excellent written and verbal communication skills? Do you have a hint of “pirate” in your make up?
It’s important you possess a good level of business acumen, think positively, are confident and proactive. Working with integrity and order should be your style, seamlessly organizing an extremely busy and dedicated leader; the team around you will have no idea how you get so much done with your calm, genuine manner.
Taking everything in your stride, and flawlessly managing the schedule of a busy leader, should be what you take immense pride in. Solid company values, opportunities to learn, a down-to-earth company culture will match your good humour and hardworking personality. This really is the unique opportunity you’ve been seeking.
